And then there were...


Two!


Now, the question is this. Are these eggs from the same bird? About when the second egg appeared, a few days after the first egg, we started seeing THREE other doves (rather than just the one other dove besides whoever is in the nest at the time) flying about and hovering, and sitting on our garage roof. We read that sometimes four birds will share nesting duties, but I am assuming that means only one bird laid the eggs? Does anyone know?

Hrm, I wonder. I'd ask the bird expert in the house, but she's busy doing history-related school work.

That's so interesting. I tried to look it up on Google but it I didn't find the answer to your question. I did see that doves will often return to the same nest year after year though.

Oh I don't know, we have doves and they wake my kids at 5 am cooing, hee hoo hoo hoo hoo, hee hoo hoo hoo hoo. They are lovely birds but the drive me crazy.

I don't know, but I do know that Rock Doves (pigeons~ like I have) are closely related to Mourning Doves and they always lay one egg and then 24-48 hours later lay the second egg and both eggs are from the same mom......

There's another! I would expect 2 sometimes 3, rarely 4. In my experience they don't share nests.
